South America highlights

It’s Friday date night and Ray and I have just finished watching ‘Motorcycle Diaries’ in Spanish with English subtitles.  The movie focuses on Che Guevara’s earlier years and more specifically on a road trip he did with his uncle on a beat up old motorbike through Chile.  The scenery is dramatic and unbelievably stunning, we are feeling inspired.  A little dream has started to grow in our hearts.

Fast forward a couple of years and we are on our way to that beautiful continent called South America.  5 weeks, 3 countries, 9 cities, 12 flights, 11 bus rides, 5 ferries, a handful of taxi rides and roughly 200km’s of hiking and we have seen that little dream become a reality!  South America was everything we could have ever hoped for and we feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to experience it.

Unfortunately I couldn’t take along my big cameras due to weight constraints but we were fairly chuffed with the results of our little Canon S95.  Here are just a few highlights from the trip.  Enjoy ♥

Our trip started in a city with the widest street in the world and the best ice-cream we have ever tasted!  Buenos Aires.

Cadore Gelato Artigianale.   Seriously I think we ate a kg of this stuff!

BA have their own version of Cape Town’s Bo Kaap – introducing La Boca!  The colourful home of Tango ♥

4 tough days of hiking (the Inca’s don’t believe in contouring) and our group makes it to Machu Pichu.

 Next stop Amazon.

The southern-most city in the world – Ushuaia – surrounded by snow capped mountains.

My happy place in Ushuaia ♥

Tierra del Fuego National park in Argentina.

Day 1 of the Dientes circuit – Chile.

Puerto Natales in Chile, Patagonia.

Torres del Paine National Park – we did the  8 day 100km circuit.

The view that greeted us as we came over the mountain pass – spectacular glaciar Grey!

Swimming in a glacial lake.

5:30am summit to watch the sunrise over the towers that Torres del Paine National Park is famous for.

Christmas Day bliss ♥
